Altocumulus undulatus indicate an unstable layer of air in the mid-levels. The cumulus are visible as cellular shaped clouds that are lined up in horizontal bands with thin strips of blue sky in between. The blue strips indicate sinking motion while the puffy cells reveal upward motion.
